I thought I sensed a change in you in recent months, Amanda. Spread those gorgeous wings! And this is beautiful: "keep looking for the light and writing about where I saw it last." ❤
Right? I didn’t think I needed to worry until it kept happening. People kept cautioning me or commenting. Finally, I was like this is real. It feels viscerally real that white men don’t want women to be educated at all. I would have scoffed at that before. But now, with the ugly out from under the carpet it’s become glaringly clear that they really are threatened by educated women. And they teach that same fear to their families and it spreads from there.
Right. The men. For some reason I was stuck on the idea of women being threatened because you'd mentioned there were women too. The men being threatened is no less sad of course, but it's also ominous for the reasons that you mention. Yes, it's real. All too real.
I absolutely love this, Amanda! I’m so happy for us all. You have such a unique perspective, and you are such a gift. Please know that there is a huge community here that stands with you, that supports you, and loudly insists on your right to be yourself out loud. I can’t tell you how glad I am to read this. That bit, at the end about coming from a place of community rather than one of dominance, is for me, the whole transition from patriarchy. I would have quote-stacked that but I never want to steal a writer’s thunder. I love your art and your approach.
Oh quote stack away. As long as you give me credit I’m happy. Which u think the quote links them back to my stack anyway. Also, thanks for your comments and for showing support. We need as much of that among us women as we can get no matter where we are in the world.
If anyone ever went for you, we’d all be there in the comments. You are not alone. I so resonate with your hesitation, though. I’m 68, and I’m just sticking my nose out now. That boundary is a serious one. That’s why we need each other.
Absolutely. We are always more powerful together than alone as a species not just as women. So I’m grateful to have women who have my back! Consider it reciprocated!
All strength to you, Amanda. You know I’ve so much respect for you and your gorgeous, natural writing.
A lot of what you write here resonates with me a LOT, I’d spent years “apologising” for my qualifications and generally keeping schtum… a heap of complex childhood events were (mostly) why.
This piece has editing issues. A sign that I couldn’t look at it too long and too hard to make it better. So I just posted what I had. It doesn’t have to be perfect. Not here. Whew. Reminding myself that was a load off.
PREACH!!

Anyone who is threatened by a Master's degree is not worth an ounce of your concern. I just don't get that. People can be so goddamned disappointing.

I do. We are social herd animals, which usualy I think are run by the females.
